(1) 15. Mai 2025, 10:00 bis 14:00 Uhr - Karla Zavala Barreda and Adriaan Odendaal (Internet Teapot): "Algorithms of Late-Capitalism" co-creation zine workshop – Rendering the body/ies of AI visible
How much water is used to keep the ChatGPT servers cool? Whose invisible work allows self-driving cars to identify someone running across the road? Where are all our emails actually stored, and at what cost?
In this workshop we will be using DIY zine-making tactics to critically reflect and creatively explore the hidden and often-ignored materiality and social construction of AI and other digital technologies. Together we will collaboratively create collages, comics, stories, poems, essays, and more to create the latest issue of the Algorithms of Late-Capitalism zine.
The Algorithms of Late-Capitalism zine is a small independent magazine that deals with topics related to digital technologies and their often adverse, sometimes absurd, impact on our daily lives. You can download, read, and print previous issues of the zine at algorithmsoflatecapitalism.tumblr.com/zines.
internet teapot is a Rotterdam-based collaboration that focuses on speculative and co-design projects and research. The collaboration consists of Karla Zavala Barreda and Adriaan Odendaal.
Karla is a Peruvian researcher, designer, and project manager currently doing her PhD in Media Studies at the University of Amsterdam. Adriaan is a South African multimedia and content designer working on his PhD in the societal impact of AI at Erasmus University Rotterdam. The studio stems from their shared belief that design can play a transformative role in how we think of and engage with the world around us.
(2) 25.06.2025, 10:00 - 14:00 Uhr - Pernilla Philip: Tracing support: identifying and sustaining care networks
This workshop invites participants to explore how mutual aid and support structures emerge in response to gaps in conventional medical systems. Through collective reflection and practical exercises, we will examine ways to make these often-hidden forms of care more recognisable and identifiable.
Pernilla Manjula Philip explores questions around chronic illness in relation to the medical industry. Her work, rooted in lived experience, serves as a testbed for exploring vulnerabilities and strengths of the shared resilience of do-it-yourself (DIY) and open-source approaches to medical management. She aims to raise questions about who gets to shape medical knowledge, and the diverse perspectives on safety.
